To create a center for environmental education for the Needham
community, with a focus on teaching organic farming methods and sustainable living practices.
Farm-Based Education
Through farm-based education we develop an appreciation for the environment, an understanding of where our food comes from, and a desire to preserve the resources necessary for our survival.
In addition to the direct environmental benefits of farm-based education, programs provide low income families with access to healthy, affordable produce, encourage multi-generational learning and community building, and create a place where children can build confidence, feel a sense of accomplishment and become more self reliant.
Sustainable Living Practices
A sustainable system can last for many generations without using up the resources needed for survival. Today, humans use resources in a way that is no longer sustainable, which puts future generations as risk. By modeling sustainable farming and living practices, from crop rotation to composting, rainwater collection to passive solar design, we can help community members take the steps toward reducing their impat. Simple changes in the way we think and live day to day can significantly reduce our impact on the environmental, save money and actually improve our quality of life.
It is our hope that the Needham Community Farm will someday become an integral part of the Needham community as we continue to realize our mission to create a center for environmental education.
